A practice is usually started because of the belief that over time things will get better, or something specific will happen (you will be able to perform a headstand).

Over time, you are able to observe whether things are in fact getting better, analyse the situation, and make adjustments.

You may have been wrong about the practice itself, you may need more time, or you may need to add or remove elements to your practice.
