Restless discovery
I love the process of learning.
This has been heightened with building my Personal Index, and developing and iterating my process.
I've always enjoyed reading to learn new things, but I've struggled to remember what I have read and where I read it, particularly over time. This has stopped me from thinking more deeply about particular ideas or concepts, and building my toolkit of usable knowledge.
Writing, and building a system for capturing ideas and new information simply and quickly has given me energy like never before. I'm able to connect dots and make sense of things in ways previously unknown to me.
I am finding ideas and connections come to me more freely. I increasingly feel an itch to write to make sense of my thoughts, or read to discover new things.
"Matisse valued restless discovery over completion and polish."- NSW Art Gallery, Sydney
This quote I saw about one of my favourite artists continues to inspire my own systems and processes for learning, and how I think about personal growth.
Nothing is ever perfect. Consistently showing up at 60% will, over time, far outweigh waiting to show up when you are feeling 100% perfect (it won't happen and you'll make no progress).
The more I learn, however imperfectly, the more opportunities I have to discover new things about the world, and understand them when I get there.
I'm finding that I value restless discovery more and more.
