Use it or lose it
In rugby union there is a rule designed to prevent teams with possession of the ball from wasting time. If the ball is stationary and not used for more than a few seconds, the referee will yell out "use it or lose it!". The attacking team must keep the ball moving, or lose it to the other team.
It's been almost 20 years since I last played a game of rugby, but have been thinking recently about how this rule is useful to remember for many areas of life:- We needn't hold on to stuff that we never use.
- Things that are not used or maintained often rot and decay.
- Muscles that aren't used deteriorate.
- We can stagnate when we are not learning new things.
- Friends that we don't keep up with can fade away.
We should make use of the things that are important to us, we can afford to lose what is not.
