What do you default to?
I've been asking myself this question recently, as I've noticed myself slipping into watching more Youtube, checking football news and updates, or scrolling on Instagram.
Our quality of life is highly correlated with how we spend our time. Are we aligned with what we really care about?
I've found that asking simple questions like this helps jolt my mind back to conscious thinking, rather than passive decision making - a default to scrolling. It's not easy. Technology is designed to keep us using it, and we were designed to be lazy (energy conserving).
It's just a first step - changing what we default to requires more conscious thinking, and work. Sometimes we can feel daunted or empty by the sheer amount of time that is suddenly freed and unfilled. This is the time to review your values - what you really care about - and make sure that your next 'default' setting is pointing in that direction.
