Locus of Control

Definition:

  1. The place (locus) where people feel in control of each aspect of their life.

Insights:

  1. Feeling of control is an important element in human performance and happiness.
  2. The feeling that personal decisions influence the direction of our lives is considered 'internal locus of control'. The feeling that external factors control our lives is considered 'external locus of control'.
  3. People with internal locus of control tend to be higher performers, and have lower levels of stress. People with external locus of control tend to be lower performers with higher stress levels.

The Rule of 72

Insights:

  1. Use the Rule of 72 to determine how long it will take for money to double, at any rate of interest, just divide the interest rate into 72.
  2. Spending even a little amount today means giving up a significant amount of money in the future.

Principles:

  1. Commit to investing a fixed amount for a long time.
  2. Look for ways to free up money to invest.
  3. Do not touch your money. Watch it grow.
